The Green Stamp Program

The Green Stamp is an innovative environmental program developed by the Motor Trade Association of WA with funding assistance from the Western Australian Waste Management Recycling Fund.

The program assists small to medium automotive businesses to incorporate processes and practices into their day-to-day operations to improve the environmental performance of their business.

The program's overall aim is to provide responsible businesses with the Green Stamp accreditation and encourage vehicle owners to utilise the services of those businesses.

One day every car user in Australia will recognise the Green Stamp logo as a symbol of excellent environmental practice, and conceding to their environmental conscience will feel compelled to deal with a certified Green Stamp business.

  • Act as an independent consultancy service to businesses in the automotive repair industry.
  • Conduct confidential environmental audits on individual premises
  • Assist automotive businesses to incorporate cleaner production practices.
  • Develop a register of efficient cleaner production products and services available in Perth for distribution throughout the industry.
  • Compilation of industry specific resources such as guidance notes to help educate and promote practicable cleaner production processes.
  • Deliver cleaner production seminars to individuals and groups to raise the level of awareness and understanding within the industry.
  • Ultimately, provide automotive businesses with a recognised environmental accreditation and promote them as responsible corporate citizens.

Environmental Protection Through Cleaner Production

Cleaner production is about producing goods and services in a way that avoids or reduces pollution and waste, and ensures an efficient use of resources.

This includes conserving raw materials and energy, eliminating toxic raw materials and reducing the quantity and toxicity of all emissions and wastes.

What Needs to be Done?

The Green Stamp is focusing on several areas to reduce the industry's environmental impact.

  • Improved storage practices associated with chemicals and other hazardous substances.
  • Pre-treatment of wastewater from the workshop prior to approved disposal.
  • Emergency spill management to prevent pollution of ground and stormwater.
  • Correct disposal of waste products, preferably to recycling or reuse.
  • Air quality management.
  • Energy and resource conservation.
  • The development of environmental management systems.
