Nearly 90 women in the WA automotive industry gathered together on Thursday 23 February at Burswood on Swan.  It was the inaugural Women in Automotive lunch featuring panellists who have achieved across different sectors of the industry.

The four panellists Robyn Cook, Jessica da Silva, Bianca Timber and Toni Hunter told their career stories and talked about the challenges and possibilities for women in the industry.

Feedback from attendees has been overwhelmingly supportive:

"The speakers were excellent - all had different stories to share with the one common element of sticking it out in a male dominated field."

"The event was flawless, the speakers were great as they kept the audience motivated with the individual paths that they each have followed to reach where they are today."

"It was very friendly, it was very comfortable. The four Ladies who spoke were genuine and relevent to Me. The food was delicious. I would love to see more of these events. It was so nice to see women and men from all parts of our industry. experiencing the same things and seeing how we all deal them. Steve from the MTA is such a credit to The MTA."

Given the success of the event the MTA WA is now planning to develop other similar events, launch a women’s network for the automotive industry and introduce a mentoring program.

“Women show they are excellent communicators and will readily share information. So the idea of establishing a network can have very positive results for sharing ideas and fostering growth among women,” said MTA WA CEO Stephen Moir.

“It would create a very supportive environment that will benefit the whole industry and ultimately benefit consumers.”.
