MTA WA has recieved a Dealer Bulletin from the Department of Transport.  The full bulletin can be downloaded for your reference at the bottom of the page..

In summary the bulletin covers:

  • New charges and fees for 2017/2018.
  • Not all fees are increasing. The majority of vehicle licence fees for Heavy vehicles registered under FIRS are decreasing.
  • There is no change to personalised and special series plate application fees.
  • The ICWA Insurance Premium Schedule has changed for classes 3(a) and 3(b) to exclude passenger car vehicles originally designed with nine seats or less, including the driver.

Process

Effective dates for vehicle licence grant or renewal

The increase to light vehicle licence fees will apply to:

  • new vehicle licences issued on or after 1 July 2017; and
  • the renewal of vehicle licences expiring on or after 30 June 2017.

Note: The ‘Payment Due Before’ date on vehicle renewal notice indicates which fees are applicable, and indicates when the renewal comes into effect rather than the licence expiry date.

Effective dates for all other vehicle licence fees

Effective from 1 July 2017;

  • vehicle licence fees will increase for WA licensed heavy vehicles; and
  • the majority of vehicle licence fees will decrease for heavy vehicles registered under the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme (FIRS).

Plate application fees

There is no increase in the personalised and special series application and plate fees in 2017/2018. The fees for State plates, Auxiliary plates, Plate Remake and Transfer fees have all increased.

Advance purchase of vehicle inspection receipts

If a vehicle examination receipt is purchased prior to 1 July 2017 and is presented for a vehicle inspection on or after this date, the receipt is to be honoured, and the examination must be conducted without any additional charge.

Motor Injury Insurance

Insurance classes 3(a) and 3(b) now exclude passenger car vehicles originally designed with nine seats or less, including the driver, that have been subsequently modified to have more than nine seats (e.g. stretch limousines).
