Advance Your Career in Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology
As the automotive industry rapidly transitions toward electric and hybrid drive systems, today’s technicians must be equipped with the skills to work safely, confidently, and competently on Battery electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles.
This training program is designed specifically for qualified automotive technicians seeking to upskill in Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). It goes beyond introductory concepts, delivering the practical, hands-on skills required to safely depower, inspect, service, and re-initialise electric and hybrid vehicles in a real-world workshop environment.
Participants will develop a strong understanding of high-voltage safety procedures, manufacturer-aligned service practices, and fault-finding techniques—ensuring they are job-ready as electric and electric-assisted vehicles become the industry standard.
NOTE: This course is not an entry-level introduction to electric or hybrid vehicles. It is intended for technicians who already hold a recognised automotive qualification and want to advance their capability in this rapidly growing field.
Enrolments
This course is available via fee-for-service enrolment to all qualified automotive technicians, with no funding requirements.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units achieved, providing nationally recognised evidence of specialist EV and hybrid capabilities.
Funding Options (Eligible Participants)
Technicians who meet WA State Government funding eligibility criteria may be able to access a subsidised place. Eligible participants who successfully complete the training will be awarded the following nationally recognised skill sets:
- AURSS00064 – Battery Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set
- AURSS00037 – Hybrid Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set
For eligibility criteria please download and review the Flyer.
Proof of eligibility is required at enrolment.
Resources Required
Learners are expected to provide minimum personal protective equipment (work clothing, safety glasses and rubber soled safety boots that meet Australian Safety Standards AS 2210.3:2019) and are encouraged to bring their own test equipment or special PPE, as long as it meets MTA WA Training Inc’s requirements.
Special Requirements
Due to the high voltage and potentially dangerous nature of the work, learners with severe twitches or impaired fine motor skills must assess their suitability to enrol in the course. Learners with pace-makers or other medical device, or condition that can be affected by the powerful magnets within an EV, as per AS 5732:2022 (Sect 2.1), are not suitable to attend this course.
