Another brand has been added to the list of companies providing five-year warranties.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen has just announced a 5-year/unlimited kilometre warranty deal on all passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles, following the moves of many of their competitors. With the majority of the top 10 brands now providing this same offer, it comes as a surprise that market leader Toyota is yet to follow in their footsteps. Brands now offering a lengthier extended warranty include Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Holden, Ford, Kia and Honda.

The decision by many car companies to up their warranty periods came after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) embarked on its in-depth review of consumer rights in the car industry, stating under ACL that if appropriate maintenance has been upheld they are obliged to fix a major fault after four or five years.

VW’s offer currently only stands until the end of the year; however, this is expected to change. Similarly, Nissan’s 5-year offer came as a “limited time only” special but is also expected to be made permanent in the near future.
