Group CEO of the MTA WA, Stephen Moir, has announced he will step down in September 2025 after more than 15 years in the role. Stephen shares the following message with the Association’s members, staff, and stakeholders.

After more than 15 years as Group Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Trade Association of Western Australia, I have advised the Board of my decision to step down from the role. My final day will be Friday, 19 September 2025.

This has not been an easy decision – serving as CEO of the MTA WA has been one of the greatest honours of my professional life. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together during this time, and I know that the Association is well positioned for a strong and successful future.

When I joined the MTA WA in 2010, I set three clear objectives for myself and the organisation:

  • Achieve financial sustainability
Today, the Association is in its strongest financial position to date, with strong revenue growth and the ability to reinvest in services, training, and advocacy.
  • Be recognised as WA’s leading automotive training provider
I’m proud that our training arm is now regarded as the best in the State, having won WA’s Large Training Provider of the Year and a national bronze at the 2024 Australian Training Awards.
  • Improve the participation and recognition of women in the automotive industry
We’ve made meaningful progress in this space, with the 2024 election of Jodi Kerr marking a historic milestone – not only as the MTA WA’s first female State President, but also as the first woman to lead any automotive industry association in Australia.

Over the past 15 years, we’ve worked hard to build the MTA WA into one of the most respected and influential business associations in Western Australia. This success has been a shared effort, made possible through the commitment of our staff, the leadership of our Board, and the support of our members.

While I am stepping down from the role of CEO, I remain fully committed to the important work of the Association – and my focus over the coming weeks will be on supporting the Board through a smooth and well-considered leadership transition.

Thank you to our members, partners, and colleagues – past and present – for your trust, collaboration, and shared belief in the value of a strong, united automotive industry. I look forward to watching the MTA WA continue to thrive in its next chapter.

A note from the MTA WA team:
On behalf of all staff, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Stephen for his leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment over the past 15 and a half years. It’s been a privilege to work alongside you, and we wish you every success in the next chapter.
