Learners develop the principles underpinning the operation of vehicle systems and subsystems. They learn to carry out servicing operations, inspection and servicing of engines, cooling systems, batteries, manual transmissions, drivelines, steering, suspension and braking systems. Learners develop safe working practices and environmental awareness when developing solutions to planning and managing automotive vehicle systems.

The Trainer Assessor will schedule visits at least monthly to conduct training and carry out assessment in order to confirm development of competency.
This program will be delivered through a range of teaching and learning strategies in the learner’s workplace. These include:
- Practical workshop-based tasks (these involve demonstration and practice activities in monitored work environments).
- Trainer-lead knowledge development through supportive text, PowerPoints, Autodata video and one-on-one conversation.
- Self-motivated study to support knowledge and practical skills development.
- Simulated workplace in one of our Training Centres if the workplace is unable to support a particular skill. The Trainer Assessor will organise for the learner to attend one of our Training Centres for simulated skill development and assessment. The Training Centre has equipment which reflects automotive industry workshop standards.
The qualification is delivered through on-the-job training at the learner’s workplace with a structed program covering 7 blocks over the course of during a 12-month Traineeship contract. The qualification is delivered at regular intervals (usually monthly visits) structured around the needs of the individual trainee. The duration of the visits may vary (generally 2-4 hours). The visit will involve theory and practical training, as well as assessment opportunities.
