Build the core skills employers expect before starting an automotive apprenticeship. Learners develop the principles underpinning vehicle systems and subsystems while learning safe working practices and environmental awareness in a simulated workplace environment. Training focuses on practical servicing and inspection tasks across engines, cooling systems, batteries, manual transmissions, drivelines, steering, suspension and braking systems, plus introductory automotive electrical work (including soldering).
What you’ll complete: 20 units of competency (13 core + 7 elective). Electives may change.
Duration & weekly schedule: Delivered full-time over approximately 20 weeks, with 3 days per week training (workshop + classroom theory/multimedia/group work) and 2 days per week work placement arranged by MTA WA Training Inc. To complete the pre-apprenticeship, learners must achieve a minimum of 150 hours work placement within the course duration. Work placement gives host employers an opportunity to observe learners for potential apprenticeship opportunities; however, placement or employment is not guaranteed and depends on performance, work ethic and host employer needs.
Further pathways: AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, AUR31120 Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, and other qualifications within the Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package. This course is designed to support transition into an automotive apprenticeship pathway.
