The Automotive Skills Assessment is designed to document and evaluate the competency of candidates within the tyre industry for the purpose of obtaining a WA Motor Vehicle Repairer’s Certificate (MVRC).

The Assessment comprises of written, third party and work-based components, it ensures that the candidate’s knowledge and active use of skills is satisfactory for the assessor to endorse. The assessment covers the following optional streams:

  1. Tyre Fitting – Light Vehicle (TFL)
  2. Tyre Fitting – Heavy Vehicle (TFH)
  3. Wheel aligning, steering and suspension work (WSS)

Learners will engage in the completion of an evidence portfolio, in which they document their previous work history, previous qualifications/training, undertake a knowledge questionnaire and have their supervisor complete a checklist to ensure that the respective areas of competency are being practiced in the workplace.

Once this portfolio has been completed and submitted, the allocated assessor will review and schedule a practical assessment appointment. Should the learner successfully complete all assessment criteria, the MTA WA Training will endorse the learner for meeting the industry standard required for the relevant Repairer’s Certificate classification.

Learners will have 1 year to complete this skills assessment; however, it can be completed in a much shorter time.
