As part of the official WA launch of National Skills Week 2026, MTA WA is opening the doors to its Balcatta training facility on Saturday 29 August for a free, family-friendly Open Day. 

Whether you’re a student exploring future career options, a parent seeking pathways beyond university, or a business owner looking to build your workforce, this event showcases how apprenticeships can lead to rewarding careers in automotive technology, diagnostics, electric vehicles, heavy transport, leadership and more. 

Visitors will experience hands-on demonstrations, cutting-edge technology, career advice, training workshops and the WorldSkills Auto Electrical Competition.

What’s the Open Day About?

Thinking about a career in automotive? This Open Day gives students the chance to step inside a real training workshop environment and discover where a career in automotive could take them.

You’ll get to:

• Discover career pathways – both school-based and after school
• Experience hands-on demonstrations
• Learn about future technologies including EVs and diagnostics
• See the latest vehicles and technology
• Meet tradspeople, trainers, and apprentices

It’s a fun, interactive way to see if automotive is right for you!

Event Program

• 10:00am – 3:30pm
  • Guided Open Day Walk Arounds & Live Training Demonstrations led by MTA WA trainers in Workshop 253:
    • Hands-on demonstrations
    • Behind-the-scenes training tours
  • Watch WorldSkills Auto Electrical competition live in Workshop 251, competing in the Regional WorldSkills Competition
  • 10:15am – 11:00am – Media Address – WA State Kick-Off for National Skills Week – the National Skills Week theme: “Life Changing.”
  • Food & coffee trucks on-site
  • Explore sponsor marquees and free giveaways
