Record-Keeping and Pay Slip Obligations – State System

The following information is only relevant to employers and employees in the national fair work system, and is intended as a guide only.

Many employees in the state system are covered by an award. Awards, (also called modern awards), are legal documents that set the minimum pay rates and conditions of employment.

The summary below lists some of the more common jobs in the motor vehicle repair, services and retail industry. The table indicates the award and likely classification level. An accurate award classification requires a detailed job description. If you are unsure about award coverage, please contact the MTA.

All state system employers are legally required to keep employment records, which include employee details, weekly time and wage records, pay slips and leave records. For further information on record keeping obligations see:

Pay slip requirements

It is compulsory for all state system employers to provide a pay slip to each employee within one working day of paying the employee for work performed. For further information see:
