DRIVEN Program – Grant Funding Now Open for EV Charging Infrastructure

Industry News & Updates

MTA WA and MTAA have been working closely with the federal government on the DRIVEN Program, and applications for the Charger Grant Stream are now open – and this is one members won’t want to miss.

The DRIVEN Charger Grant Stream gives organisations grant funding to build new public fast electric vehicle charging stations at automotive dealerships or EV repairer sites. With $20 million available in total, grants of up to $8 million are on offer – making this a significant opportunity for businesses looking to invest in EV charging infrastructure.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, you must have an Australian Business Number (ABN), an account with an Australian financial institution, and be an entity incorporated in Australia. Projects must support the installation of new public fast EV charging stations at automotive dealership or EV repairer premises, with a minimum of 25 charging bays and at least one CCS Type 2 plug per charging bay.

How Much Can You Receive?
The level of funding available depends on where your proposed stations are located:

  • Metropolitan zones: up to 50% of eligible expenditure per charging station
  • Regional and journey enablement zones: up to 80% of eligible expenditure per charging station

Eligible expenditure includes EV supply equipment, civil works, electricity network connections, installation activities, and on-site battery storage.

How to Apply
Applications are submitted through the online Business Portal. Before applying, make sure you read and understand the grant opportunity guidelines available on the program page. Projects must be completed by 31 March 2029.

Applications close Friday 28 August 2026 at 5:00pm AEST (3:00pm AWST) – don’t leave it too late.
