The MTA WA responds: National End-of-Life Tyres Options Project: Discussion Paper August 2024

The Motor Trade Association of Australia (MTAA) was recently given an opportunity to respond to the Government of Western Australia, Department of Water and Environmental Regulation’s National End-of-Life Tyres Options Project: Discussion Paper August 2024.

The Project seeks to establish a collective understanding of the problems associated with end-of- life tyres (EOLT) including Off–The-Road-tyres (OTR) and re-treads to identify possible policy solutions.

The MTAWA sought comments from our members to contribute to the National submission in conjunction with the MTAA Australian Tyre Detailers and Re-treaders Association (ATDRA). Thank you to our WA members who contributed to ensure WA perspective was represented.

Following consideration and incorporation of the feedback, the Project findings will be presented to Australian Environment Ministers at the end of 2024.  The Environment Ministers will consider next steps, including the need for further work to fully assess options for end-of-life tyres. The work may include a future cost benefit analysis and public consultation under a Policy Impact Analysis (PIA).
